A word from the Academic Director
SVB — A Badge of Trust
At The Florence Academy of Art / Sweden, we take pride not only in the rigorous artistic education we provide but also in the transparent, student-focused structure of our organization. As an aktiebolag (AB) operating under the designation (svb) — särskild vinstutdelningsbegränsning — we stand as a testament to integrity, commitment, and trust in the educational field.
LLC, or as we say in Swedish: AB
In Sweden, an aktiebolag is a limited liability company. The designation reflects a robust legal framework designed to ensure accountability and transparency. Companies under this structure adhere to stringent laws governing governance, reporting, and operational ethics. For us, this framework guarantees that the Florence Academy of Art / Sweden is managed with the utmost professionalism, meeting the expectations of students, faculty, and the wider community.
What’s the Deal with Särskild Vinstutdelningsbegränsning?
While an aktiebolag typically exists to generate profit for its shareholders, the svb designation signifies a profound difference. Translated as “particular dividends limitation”, the (svb) mark transforms the standard aktiebolag into an entity with a mission beyond profit. In an (svb) company, profit distribution is strictly limited by law. Instead of enriching shareholders, any surplus is reinvested directly into the organization’s primary purpose—in our case, the education of our students.
This structure aligns us with non-profit ideals while retaining the organizational efficiency of an aktiebolag. It forces us, by law, to dedicate all tuition fees, donations, and other income exclusively to improving and maintaining the high standards of the education we offer.
The History and Philosophy Behind the svb Form
The (svb) form was introduced in Sweden as a means of improving trust in organizations that serve the public good. Recognizing that entities like schools, cultural institutions, and care providers often require a level of trustworthiness beyond what conventional corporate structures offer, the Swedish government developed the (svb) model to address these needs.
An (svb) company cannot be sold or repurposed for profit motives. Its purpose is permanently locked into its founding mission, ensuring stability and a long-term focus on its goals. For The Florence Academy of Art / Sweden, this means our commitment to training the next generation of master artists remains inviolable.
A Badge of Trust
Choosing to operate under the (svb) designation is more than a legal choice—it is a declaration of our values. By committing ourselves to this structure, we affirm to our students that every cent of their tuition goes directly to their education. Whether it funds experienced instructors, hard working models or well-equipped studios, every resource is channeled toward creating the best environment for artistic growth.
This setup is not only a badge of trust but also a reflection of our deep respect for the students who choose to study with us. It is a promise that we are here for them—not for shareholders, profit margins, or fleeting interests.
At The Florence Academy of Art / Sweden, we do more than teach art; we embody the principles of dedication and transparency that are essential to a meaningful educational experience. It is our honor to uphold these ideals for every student who walks through our doors.
