The end, the beginning
At FAA/Sweden, we understand that the transition from student life to a professional career as an artist is both exciting and challenging. The journey does not end with graduation; in many ways, it is only just beginning. Moving from the structured environment of the academy to the realities of sustaining oneself as a working artist can be daunting. Developing a strong portfolio, finding opportunities to exhibit, and building a client base all require time, perseverance, and continued access to high-quality workspaces and models. That’s why, for many years, we have upheld a standing offer to our alumni: take full advantage of the school. For life.
This means that, space permitting, any FAA/Sweden graduate is welcome to return to the academy to use the studio, continue developing their work, and spend time in the model room, painting portraits—completely free of charge. This lifelong access is not just a practical benefit; it is a reflection of our deep commitment to our community and to the philosophy that learning and growth in art never truly stop.
More than just a workspace, this open-door policy fosters an environment where students and alumni coexist, creating a dynamic exchange of experience and knowledge. Current students witness those who came before them transition into professional painters, demystifying the path ahead and proving that a career in figurative realism is achievable. Bonds form across “generations” of artists, strengthening the FAA/Sweden community with every passing year. Alumni return not just to refine their skills, but to reconnect, mentor, and inspire.
This enduring support system is a cornerstone of our academy. It ensures that every artist who has trained here remains part of something greater—a network of dedicated painters and sculptors who uphold the traditions of excellence and craftsmanship long after they have completed their studies.
Alumni Fellowship
Since the inaugural event in August/September 2021, the Alumni Summer Fellowship has becoma an annual tradition where we welcome alumni, old and new, to meet and paint together for two weeks. During this time members of the alumni will be sharing experiences in a creative and open environment. Based on the feedback from the previous years, the schedule evolve in collaboration with our alumni, but includes:
- Painting from the model: we hire the models and you come up with the projects.
- Field trips/landscaping: we’ll visit an exhibition or pack up our painting gear in mini buses and spend the day painting in the archipelago.
- Guest lecturers: we’ll finish off a day painting together by listening to an inspirational talk.
Thanks to some generous donations we are happy to offer scholarships for the entire tuition fee. (Travel to and from the fellowship, housing and accommodation is not included.)
