A word from our director

This is the way

At The Florence Academy of Art / Sweden, we are known for our dedication to excellence in classical drawing and painting. Yet there are aspects of our school that remain quietly in the background—details about our history, structure, and mission that are not widely discussed.

Perhaps they don’t need to be. After all, what matters most is the education and community offered at the top of the waterfall in Kvarnbyn. (And many of those aspects are, quite frankly, my job.) But transparency is the way, and I believe there could be something enriching about sharing a fuller story of who we are and how we operate.

Moving forwards, I’ll be writing (infrequently and irregularly) about those details: our organizational structure, the philosophy guiding our workshops, and the values that have shaped us since we welcomed our first students in 2007 et cetera. My hope is that these insights will reinforce the trust that makes this community so special, and I look forward to sharing these insights with you.

Thank you for reading,

Andreas Birath
Academic Director, The Florence Academy of Art / Sweden
